What connection does modern man have to Achilles and how can modern man relate to this hero?

  1. Achilles and modern man are similar in that both are capable of being motivated by positive and negative emotions. For instance, Achilles leaves the battlefields of Troy due to his wounded pride, only returning when Patrocles is slain by Hector and returning the favor a thousandfold upon the Trojans by slaughtering the ones he comes across, ending with Hector himself. In present-day society, individuals are often motivated in the same manner to lie, cheat, steal, or spread gossip about others, whether to avenge themselves or their wounded feelings. Keeping this in mind when one reads is the perfect way to understand how people are still linked to those that came before them.

  2. Modern man has the same emotional connection of Achilles because there are people out there that kill out of revenage and hate, but also realize what they did and show compassion for it later. In "The Iliad", Achilles kills Hector because he killed his best friend, Patroclus. In todays world people kill for way more or less, but with the same intent.

  3. Modern man and Achilles both think alike. If someone does any type of harm to their relative or close friend, our first reaction is to get revenge. Achilles thought very similar to that. They think that would make them more of a man if they retaliated, but that is not so. Sometimes the best thing to do is to leave situations alone and put it in God's hands. If you don't you will end feeling like Achilles when it's all said and done.

  4. Modern man and Achilles have various connections. Achilles situation is common in todays society. If someone is to hurt one of your relatives or someone close to you, your natural or first reaction is to reataliate in the same manner. In addition to that, reataliating when your aware of the consequences. Also, the connection both have is that in the end the situation will either be positive or negative.

  5. Modern man can relate to Achilles because when a man is angry at another man, they become ignorant towards one another and choose not to cooperate or even be friends anymore. This is the case of Achilles and Agamemnon. Modern men do this as well; when they have a problem between each other that they can't resolve, they agree to disagree. If they have personal matters involved in the problem, eventually one or both of them pay for it in the end.

  6. With the situation that takes place in the Iliad, the modern man does have a connection. In the story Achilles he gets enraged because Hector kills his friend Patroclus, which leads him to seek revenge against him. Similarly, there are many instances when the modern man becomes revengeful and seeks to kill the person who has taking the life of someone they have come to love whether it be a relative or a friend. Even if they know "two wrongs don't make a right" they still go out to accomplish such an act because they feel it is right or it will satisfy their void.

  7. Modern man can relate to Achilles because people do things for the feelings they have for others. Achilles brawled for the avenged his best friend because he was killed by one of his foes, likewise many people would do the same for someone they are very close too. Modern man can relate to this hero because most people now a days don’t talk things out they go straight to violence. Situations like these you should let karma handle it and let faith decide what happens to that person.

  8. Achilles and modern the modern man are verysimilar in their emotions. In the text, Achilles was mournful over the slaying of his friend Patroclus. His sadness grew into anger and progessesd to a vengeful feeling. Modern day man is very similar to this emotion. When one loses a loved one, it's only natural that one may feel very sad and in some cases, upset. If one could have prevented it of do something about it, it's possible one may.

  9. The connection that modern day men and Achilles have is the way they react to different situation. The first situation is when he does not go to battle because he does not agree with the king. In the new times, men do the same thing; when a man does not agree with their employer they do not deal with them any longer, they quit. Another way that Achilles and modern day men react the same is that in the epic Iliad Achilles finds comfort in his mother just as modern day men do at times. There is nothing like the guidance of a mother and men now and then finds comfort in the wisdom of their mother, although they may not always take it. Finally the most obvious that Achilles and modern day men are similar in their reaction is that they are both revengeful. Achilles revenge against Hector for the death of his dear friend Patrocles. Men now and days often say that they "have each other's back". The meaning of this saying is that they will do anything for their dear friend. In this way Achilles showed that when he revenged against Hector. All in all, Achilles and modern day men are alike in the fact that they will not always work for and employer if they are not in agreement with them, they find comfort from their mothers and their mother's advise, also they will revenge for a dear friend that they have.

  10. Humans have a tendency to be expressly emotional creatures when facing draining and demanding situations such as the loss of loved ones, broken hearts and proportionally immense anger. In this manner can even the modern man relate himself to one such as Achilles, who sacrificed his potential future for the sake of vengeance and didn't even carry it out to the fullest degree. When his enemy's father came humbly to retrieve the body of his son, Achilles felt pity and relented from his angry rant to show compassion to this elder. Respect and pity are also both emotions that we present day individuals share with ones such as Achilles.

  11. Modern men tend to seek revenge just as Achilles did. When one is put into a situation where someone they love has been hurt or killed the first thing that comes to mind is that they must seek revenge. Not thinking about the consequences or karma that may come with it they do what their mind tell's them to do and they mind just might be telling them to become vengeful.

  12. The modern man feels the need to protect and avenge those close to them and so does Achilles.
Like every modern man of today he was born a noble birth. Achilles experienced all the emotions of a mortal love, pain, embarrassment. Often at times men are warned not to do something because there will be a great consequence but they do it anyways. Achilles was warned by his mother to stay out of battle because if he partake in battle that his end would come swiftly but he did anyways out of anger.

  13. Achilles and modern man are alike in that they can both be influenced by their emotions. Achilles was driven by his emotions when he chose to ignore everyone's warnings and take revenge against Hector who killed Patroclus, his best friend. Today, many men would do the same thing if they were to be put into that situation.

  14. The connection between modern man and Achilles is vengence and compassion. In the beginning of The Iliad, Achilles is looking for revenge against Hector for killing his best friend Petrocles. Today, one may relate and empathize with Achilles about wanting to avenge a person that one may hold close to heart, who may have been hurt or killed by another person. However, by the end of this particular piece of The Iliad, Achilles shows some compassion towards Priam (when Priam comes to him very humbly for his son's remains) by going back on his intial intent of not returning Hector's body to Troy. Modern man can relate to this as well, for there are times when one is angered, and acts vengefully, but by hearing or seeing something that may appeal to one's emotion, the vindictive streak within that person fades away, and allows a more compassionate side to be displayed and enacted.

  16. If a love one is harmed or maimed, almost instantly, one would jump to action. Revenge is a powerful force that causes men of all times to act without thinking, and act with the sole purpose of returning the crime to the criminal, equally or greater. It can be said that Achilles and the modern man have much in command which the trait of a vengeful spirit. This trait, though not a positive attribute, ties all men to the hero, Achilles.

  17. Modern men have weaknesses as Achilles had his heel. Whether it be tears or a frown, everyone has something that just makes them want to give in to their child or their lover. One's parents, particularly, are prone to giving in when a spoiled child frowns beacuse they want something. Other weaknnesses include pet peeves and while one could address these pet peeves in detail all day. However, this one has homework and, therefore, cannot be the one to do it.

Achilles feels sorrow when he hears news of the death of his friend, which is very normal for a man of modern times to connect, and relate. As for the revenge, everyone, and in this case, even part gods, have the feeling of rage and the want to avenge for someone’s death or on any matter that is done to them.
